This week we have been busy figuring out ways to make use of the abundance of oranges we have here at Villa Cenami. The weather here in Tuscany is particularly good for growing citrus fruits and each year we collect thousands or oranges and lemons from our trees. We have been enjoying fresh squeezed orange juice daily but have barely made a dent in the supply! This week we started with a project to make Orancello. Orancello is like limoncello only made with oranges. We first carefully peeled the oranges, being careful not to get any of the white pith. We added the peel to the alcohol and now are letting that sit for 20 days. After 20 days pass we will add a simple syrup of sugar and water and let it sit for another while. By the time hot summer night arrive we will have a sufficient supply of this refreshing drink! |

Is it rainy and cold where you are? We are experiencing a lot of rainy weather here in Tuscany. We've made ourselves comfortable and cosy, tucked under warm blankets by a roaring fire. Add a good book and a cup of hot tea and the rain doesn't seem so bad afterall! Come to think of it, the season is not so bad for vacationing in Tuscany or in Italy. We have GREAT rates this time of year and the local and national attractions are much less crowded. Several of our apartments have fireplaces as well. It's actually quite romantic. This being said if you are looking ahead to a summer vacation in Italy, take a look at the photo below to tempt yourself even more. It is dinner with a view. We enjoy visiting this restaurant in the summer, it is famous for the incredible views, the perfectly prepared pizzas and grilled meats and the cold beers. Yes, you can get something other than wine in Italy. We quite like beer every now and then!
